Gravity Chaise Lounge – Sold December 2018

Mid 20th C. Gravity Chaise Lounge in steel and cow hide fur.

The Chaise lounge was originally designed in 1928. Designed by Charlotte Perriand for Le Corbusier and exhibited at the 1929 Salon d’Automne as part of a group of systemised furniture, the Chaise displayed a purity of form and function that encapsulated the purist movements ideal.

It was originally commissioned for the furnishing of a single villa in the Ville d’ Avray, a commune in the western suburbs of Paris, France. Floating above its supports, the Gravity Lounge utilizes the forces of gravity to adjust its angle while mirroring the body’s natural curves.
